It has been confirmed by DC Films at San Diego Comic 2017 that The Flash movie will be an adaptation of the Flashpoint storyline.
Flashpoint is written by Geoff Johns and is a key story arc in DC Comics history. The storyline in the comic books follows Barry Allen, who decides runs back in time in order to try and prevent the death of his mother and by doing this he creates an alternate timeline where he never becomes the Scarlet Speedster and the DC Universe is forever changed.
Here is a summary of the plot for Flashpoint:
“Flashpoint details an altered DC Universe in which only Barry Allen seems to be aware of significant differences between the regular timeline and the altered one, including Cyborg’s place as the world’s quintessential hero much like how Superman is in the main timeline, with Superman himself being held captive as a lab-rat by the United States government within an underground facility in Metropolis. In addition, a Thomas Wayne version of Batman, whose son Bruce Wayne is dead instead of him and his wife Martha (who becomes The Joker), spends his days “running Wayne Casinos” in order to help fund his vigilante activity.”
With the film possibly creating an alternative universe I think we could possibly see a big screen version of Thomas Wayne as the Batman played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and a war between the Atlanteans and Amazons. I think it would be a very special film for DC Films to make and I’m sure many fans would love it.
The Flash Movie has had a few troubles with finding a director but it now looks like those troubles will be finally gone with Robert Zemeckis and Matthew Vaughn looking likely to direct The Flash Movie with DC Films co-head Geoff Johns being very keen on the two directing the project.
It looks like DC Films has been given a boost with their DCEU and with a few films now heading for production it looks like things are beginning to take shape.
You can see the Flash in action the upcoming Justice League which is set to be released in November.
