At first, I was a little sceptical about seeing Don’t Worry Darling, mainly because I was under the impression that it was a romance, however, the reality is that Olivia Wilde’s latest film is a tour de force!
Don’t Worry Darling stars Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Olivia Wilde, Chris Pine, and many more…
The film follows the characters of Alice (Florence Pugh) and Jack (Harry Styles) who live in Palm Springs in the 1950s. We see the classic cars, colourful suburban homes, and the men dress like they’ve come off a set of Mad Men.
Everything seems to be perfect, the men head off to work and the wives get to enjoy the luxury and beauty of this seemingly perfect paradise, however, when cracks start appearing in her ideal life exposing flashes of something sinister, Alice starts looking for answers.
As a film buff, I seem to have developed quite a fondness of thrillers over the past few years, which started after seeing Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners in 2013, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gylenhaal. Incredible film.
Don’t Worry Darling is a very interesting film. There are elements in there that reminded me a little bit of The Matrix, The Maze Runner, and Vivarium films.
Florence Pugh and Harry Styles are two stars in the making. Their on-screen chemistry is wonderful. Chris Pine is exceptional and delivers a thrilling performance.
Olivia Wilde does an incredible job at crafting this seemingly perfect paradise, whilst also teasing the audience with small clues to the bigger mystery throughout the film.
The film has the audience constantly on the edge of their seats, at times making oneself question what is true and what isn’t, almost creating an internal battle of tug of war, only to be blown away by the shocking truth in the third act.
