Spider-Man finally gets his chance to shine on the big screen in his own solo outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Although Spider-Man: Homecoming is the sixth Spider-Man film in over 15 years, it feels so fresh and active. The film is mostly aimed at the younger audience with the film mostly focusing on Peter Parker at High School and the challenges which he faces trying to have balance between being a normal everyday teenager and a superhero.
Spider-Man: Homecoming takes place directly after the events of Captain America: Civil War and explores what life is like for Peter Parker after his experience with Iron Man and the Avengers as we see him return back to his neighbourhood and to his normal life.
This film is very different in comparison to other films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe as not only is it aimed towards a more younger audience but it also explores the livelihood of what life is actually like to be a superhero and I think Marvel Studios have done a brilliant job in establishing a film that brings both fiction and reality together by exploring the real life challenges which Peter Parker faces to be a normal teenager and Spider-Man at the same time.
Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Michael Keaton (The Vulture), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May) and guest stars Robert Downey Jr (Tony Stark/Iron Man) and Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan).
Now this is a film which I really enjoyed because although it is the sixth Spider-Man film in over 15 years, it feels so fresh and active and the film really does well in meeting many fan expectations. The film’s plot was great and it was really well structured which made the film feel so smooth, with each important element such as humour, action and other elements getting the opportunity to be well established and reach the audience’s perspective of the film.
Tom Holland was fantastic as Peter Parker and Spider-Man, it was like he was destined to play the role. I really admire his approach to the role of both Peter Parker and Spider-Man because I feel that he had the right balance between both roles which made it really amazing because you see him interact with other characters which he knew well as Peter Parker, you were able to see him try and hide his true identity which I think Tom Holland did well.
We have seen many films which Michael Keaton has starred in and in my eyes I see him as one of the greatest actors of all time. He stars as the Vulture in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and I actually liked the way he approached the role and I feel he played the role well. He bought a lot of characteristics to the character which made you feel that the Vulture was actually a nice guy but when you see him get messed with or when you make a wrong move then you get to see his true identity which is definitely far more frightening than his fake personality, it was like he was almost unpredictable.
One of the highlights of this film is Robert Downey Jr since not only is he appearing as Iron Man or Tony Stark but we actually see him more as a mentor than a hero in action in this film. I really liked the chemistry between Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr and I think it works really well, it was almost like a father and son relationship with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man trying to be a true superhero like Iron Man who he is inspired by and looks up to and I think this film does well in establishing that story and relationship between the two characters.
The film also stars Zendaya (Michelle), Tony Revolori (Flash), Jacob Batalon (Ned) and Laura Harrier (Liz) were great and they were very enjoyable to what with their different characteristics and their relationships with Peter Parker. Marisa Tomei who plays Aunt May was absolutely hilarious and really had a cool relationship with Peter Parker and I think we will be able to explore that a little more deeper in the next couple of films.
I think Marvel Studios have done a fantastic job in establishing something fresh and brand new with Spider-Man: Homecoming and I feel that they have bought to life the real Spider-Man from the comics which many fans have been desperate to see over the past few years. Spider-Man: Homecoming is great in terms of character, plot and the overall film is just phenomenal. One of the things which I like about this film is the way Marvel Studios create different perspectives as to how some of the character within the film see the world which is quite fascinating and really helps shape the film.
I really admire the way Marvel Studios and director Jon Watts have set this film up for the Vulture to be Spider-Man’s main villain because unlike other Marvel films where the villains are always evil and will never have any good intentions, the Vulture is very different because he comes across as very unpredictable and it makes you wonder whether he is good or bad but in reality you know he has got something evil up his sleeve.
Although the film focuses on a the development of Peter Parker as Spider-Man and his relationship with Tony Stark/Iron Man, I think my favourite highlight of this film was the Vulture and I think it would have been fun if we had got to explore a little bit more story about the Michael Keaton’s Vulture.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is by far the best Spider-Man film yet and Marvel Studios have finally bought the character home to where he belongs which is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film was fantastic in terms of character, plot and it was really enjoyable and for that I am going to give the film a 10/10.
