Warner Bros. look as though they are making great progress with their DC Extended Universe but over the past few months there have been a lot of rumours circulating Ben Affleck and his future in the DCEU.
Now as many of you may already know that Ben Affleck was originally set to direct the upcoming solo Batman movie but after struggling to get a great script together with Geoff Johns he decided to leave the role as director for the film leaving the doors open for Warner Bros. to find a new director which was later announced as Matt Reeves who you may know from the Planet of the Apes films.
Toby Emmerich who is Warners’ film studio chief Toby told The Hollywood Reporter:
“Ben is our Batman. We love him as Batman. We want to keep him in the cowl as long as we can.”
Matt Reeves, who will direct the The Batman movie has expressed his desire to keep Ben Affleck in the role but according to a source with knowledge of the situation, Warner Bros. is working on trying to create a graceful way for the actor to exit the DCEU.
Many fans love Ben Affleck as the Batman and I personally am a big fan and I feel that if Warner Bros. do make this decision then it will have a bad impact on the DCEU as a whole unless they decide to kill off the Batman and introduce a successor instead of recasting Bruce Wayne altogether.
Now although this has not yet been confirmed I think we should just wait and see how well the Justice League does when released at the end of this year because of the film does well at the Box Office and is well accepted by audiences then there is always hope that Warner Bros. extend Ben Affleck’s contract as Batman.
It could be possible that Warner Bros. are looking to keep Ben Affleck on as the Batman for a very long time but may kill the Batman off in Mat Reeves’ Batman trilogy of films, possibly the third film.
