Ever since the year 2000 when 20th Century Fox released the first X-Men film, they have been working hard to create an X-Men Universe and have also tried to do the same with another superhero property “The Fantastic Four” but they haven’t achieved the results they were expecting with the first 2 films getting mixed reviews from film goers with the 3rd being a total reboot and failing to impress superhero fans as a whole.
It has been indicated before that Fox still intends to continue with the Fantastic Four series but many superhero fans want to see the film rights returned to Marvel so that they can add the Fantastic Four to their still growing Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Collider spoke to producer Simon Kinberg who is behind most of the X-Men and other Marvel properties at 20th Century Fox. When asked about the future of all of Fox’s Marvel related superhero properties including the Fantastic Four. Kinberg had this to say:
“I have no idea. I think the truth is we would not make another Fantastic Four movie until it was ready to be made. One of the lessons we learned on that movie is that we want to make sure we get it 100% right, because we will not get another chance with the fans”.
At this stage, most fans of the Fantastic Four property probably aren’t excited by the idea of 20th Century Fox taking another go at making a Fantastic Four film. The studio has struggled to get a good handle on the property a couple of times and have failed to impress many fans who now hope that the Fantastic Four movie rights just revert to Marvel Studios – whether that be from a lack of development at Fox, Marvel purchasing the rights back, or the studios agreeing to a deal that allows the Fantastic Four to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel Studios has already done a deal with Sony to get the Spider-Man rights back so that the character can feature in not only his own films but also in the Avngers films as well. Many fans are hoping Marvel can do a similar deal with Fox over the Fantastic Four rights.
