With the success of Logan, it seems highly likely that actress Dafne Keen will reprise the role of Laura/X-23 at some point in the near future.
It was originally assumed by many fans that 20th Century Foz would come up with a new way to reintroduce the character as part of the X-Force or The New Mutants, but it sounds as though the studio has other plans.
During an interview with IGN, X-Men producer Hutch Parker suggested that any current conversations regarding X-23 are leaning more towards a solo adventure for the young Wolverine like mutant. The producer said:
“Yeah, I mean, look — I don’t know definitively, but in terms of the stuff we’ve been talking about, it’s not sort of slipping her into the background of another movie. It’s looking at that character, which is a great character and has a pretty interesting run within the comics, to find a story that we think she could carry or certainly be kind of majorly significant within.
That’s the only kind of thing that Jim as a storyteller, a filmmaker… that’s the way his sort of process works. And the way his mind works in terms of what he would aspire to. Which isn’t to say that the studio couldn’t have a conversation about something else, but the one that we’ve been kind of discussing loosely and kicking around is more likely to be its own film.”
So by reading what the producer said, does this mean that we will see X-23 continue her journey post Logan? Many fans would assume that the ultimate goal is to eventually find a way to somehow sync up the timelines so that the character is able to appear within the main X-Men saga but I think that because X-23 is already in the future then it would be more easier for 20th Century Fox to somehow connect the film with X-Force and have the character team up with Deadpool, Domino & the rest of the X-Force members in the future or even possibly have the character discover and explore the Alpha Flight because Logan did end close to Canada so that may be the easiest option.
