It has been six years since we last visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter film and many fans as well as myself thought that the film would be our last adventure in the Wizarding World but as one story ends there is always a lucky chance that another begins.
After many years of fan stories, theories and many letters to JK Rowling expressing possible film ideas, the time has finally come to return to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in this year’s “The Fantastic Beasts & Where to find them”.
The Fantastic Beasts film takes place in the year 1926, it’s about Newt Scamander who has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. When arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might of come and gone without incident, were it not for a No-Maj names Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s Fantastic Beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizard in and No-Maj worlds.
Although the Fantastic Beasts film takes place in the 1920s, there are a lot of aspects of this film which are very similar to the Harry Potter films such as the magic, the spells, creatures and plenty more. I think what makes the film so different to the Harry Potter films is the film’s plot and that it takes place outside of Hogwarts and focuses on a group of older wizards.
Fantastic Beasts gives fans the opportunity to explore a whole new area within JK Rowling’s wizarding world. Now there are a few similarities between the magical beings in America and the magical beings in England, some of those similarities are that they both share responsibilities which they have and the rules of the law. One of the most common law rules (which you may already be familiar with from watching the Harry Potter films) is to not expose the magical world to the No-Maj (Non Magical beings) which you may know better as Muggles.
We’ve seen JK Rowling’s world get bought to life before with the Harry Potter series and Warner Bros have done it again with the Fantastic Beasts and the studio is now planning to make five films or even possibly more.
I must say that I enjoyed exploring what the Wizarding World was like in the Fantastic Beasts film because not only does it make you happy to return to the Harry Potter but it also gives you a view of Jk Rowling’s world and how big it really is before the events of Harry Potter.
The whole special and visual effects in this film were brilliant and I really admire the way Warner Bros have bought the world of Harry Potter to life, it is absolutely phenomenal.
Eddie Redmayne plays Newt Scammander who is a magizoologist who is trying to find, protect and learn about magical creatures and is writing to book to give wizards and witches a better understanding about magical creatures and prove to them that they aren’t harmful. Eddie Redmayne in my opinion is just a fabulous actor, he is so good that he is capable of playing any role. His whole take on the role of Newt Scammander was great and although he may have faced a challenge as to how to play the role, I think he has done a great job and has helped Warner Bros establish another famous character just like Harry Potter.
We are also introduced to a variety of new characters within the Fantastic Beasts film who are played by a variety of great actors and actresses such as Katherin Waterston, Colin Farrell, Ezra Miller, Fine Frenzy, Dan Fogler ,and Ron Perlmen. I’ve got to say that I really enjoyed watching them bring these characters to life because it was the beginning of something new in the Wizarding World and because we’ve never seen these characters before, it allowed the cast to bring these characters to life in a way that whenever someone imagines Newt Scammander or Goldstein, the first people who will come to their mind is the actor or actress who portrayed the role.
The Fantastic Beasts differentiates a lot from the Harry Potter films because not only is the film set in the 1920s but it also has a more darker tone which I think gives the film support in making it a little bit more grown up. We also don’t see any Hogwarts like in the Harry Potter films and instead get to experience what the Wizarding World is like outside of Hogwarts which I think really takes us to a whole new level.
The film as a whole was great but I think Warner Bros could have structured the storyline a bit more better by giving us the chance explore some of the characters such as the Barebone family a little bit more.
I think Warner Bros have done a great job in delivering film fans with a whole new experience in the Wizarding World.
I really enjoyed returning to the Wizarding World with Fantastic Beasts and am really excited about seeing future installments.
I am going to give the Fantastic Beasts film a 7/10 and I definitely recommend that you go see it.
