It looks like a Venom Movie is on the horizon as Sony Pictures have announced plans to make the movie in time for a possible 2018 release.
Since Sony Pictures made a partnership deal with Marvel Studios, Spider-Man has been able join Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.
New reports have surfaced stating that Sony Pictures are keen on making a Venom solo movie, although since Sony are now in a partnership with Marvel Studios, many fans thought that any spinoff films were off the table but it now appears that the studio is moving forward with film now said to be in early production.
According to a few sources, the Venom movie will be released on October 5, 2018, it is still unclear whether the film will be connected to the MCU or any of the Spider-Man films.
Now since many Marvel fans love the MCU and enjoyed the experience of seeing Spider-Man’s introduction to the MCU in last year’s Captain America: Civil War, a Venom movie may be tough to sell if it is not connected to both Spider-Man or the MCU.
I think the only way Sony Pictures would be allowed to make a Venom movie is if it involves a little bit of Spider-Man, like a cameo just the way DC and Warner Bros. did with Suicide Squad by having Batman appear in a small cameo. Sony Pictures will also need to find a way to connect the film to the Marvel Cinematic Universe which should be easy enough if they involve Spider-Man.
There are also rumours stating that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios could possibly introduce the Spiderverse in the Venom movie which would exist in the MCU. I think this would be brilliant as it will allow fans explore multiple characters such as Venom, Multiple Spider-Men, Spider-Woman, Spider-Gwen from different realities and worlds, this may seem highly possible looking at the success of Doctor Strange which introduced alternate realities.
The idea of introducing the Spiderverse would be great opportunity for Sony Pictures to bring back Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire for Spider-Man films and establish that they exist in alternate realities and also bring back Emma Stone as Spider-Gwen, it would be a dream come true for both Marvel and Spider-Man fans.
if Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios go with the Spiderverse idea then it would be great to see the Venom movie takes place after Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 3 where the Spider-Man of that world defeats the Venom, but then it could be possible the Venom survives and enters some sort of portal and arrives in an alternate universe which is the home of the current Spider-Man (Tom Holland). If you go watch Spider-Man 3 we don’t know how the Venom gets on Planet Earth so I think to have the movie happen after Spider-Man 3 would be great and it would feature two Spider-Man cameos which could support the movie introduce the Spiderverse and bring all the Spider-Men together as well as introduce Spider-Woman and Spider-Gwen.
